SST now offers three forms of meet participation: Regular, Family, and Team.  By providing a variety of competitive meets and a progression of travel options – Regular leading to Family, and Family leading to Team – all of our swimmers will be given opportunities and experiences to ensure their emotional and physical development remain in sync.  The selection of meets and their method of participation have been designed to provide maximum opportunity to the swimmers with minimized costs to the families.

 

Regular Travel

Athletes and/or families provide their own transportation to the meet.  For lodging, SST reserves a block of rooms at a “Team Hotel” at a discounted rate and families are responsible for contacting the hotel and making their own reservations.  Meets that will most normally fit this category will be those within short driving distance from Savannah.

 

Participation in “away meets” allows the athlete to become accustomed to competing in various venues and situations.

 

Family Travel

Athletes and families are afforded the opportunity to travel as a team to the meet by charter bus or large-capacity vans and stay together as a team.  Parents of younger athletes traveling alone will need to make arrangements for their child to be chaperoned by a traveling family.  Older athletes traveling alone may share a room provided they have both parent and coach permission.  SST will make all travel and lodging arrangements for the coaches as well as all athletes and families that choose to attend.  Lodging and transportation expenses will be divided amongst all those traveling.  Meals are not included in the cost of the trip.  Meets that will most normally fit this category will be those within driving distance from Savannah, but of a distance conducive to group travel.

 

Chaperoned travel is an excellent opportunity for athletes to become accustomed to traveling with their team and also affords each family a safe and cost effective option.

 

Team Travel

Athletes and the coaching staff will travel as a team to the meet.  SST will make all travel and lodging arrangements for the athletes and coaches.  Meals are not included in the cost of the trip.  Meets that will most normally fit this category will be those requiring air travel from Savannah.

 

Traveling with the coaching staff allows the athlete to become accustomed to the manner in which many High School and most Collegiate swim programs operate and is in keeping with USA Swimming national team travel policies.  Traveling in this manner is cost effective since expenses are shared amongst all those participating.
